ON THE MOVE

A Story of Life – by Marg Schroder

R.R.P. AUD $28

onthemove

On the Move is the inspiring autobiography of my sister-in-law, Marg Schroder. Marg was born in 1947 with cerebral palsy, and despite the severe limitations of this disability, has gone on to lead a rich and colourful life.

Marg tells of the support she received from her family, her struggles to complete a tertiary education, and the tribulations of working within various disability organisations. The book reveals her adventures, hopes, successes and failures.

This is a story of hope where none would seem to exist; it is a tale of triumph over adversity, and a homage to dedication and duty – and it is an uplifting parable for those of us who have far less burdens to bare.

BookPal Review:

This book is an autobiography of a woman with a severe disability growing up in Australia, finding her place at a time when the nation was also discovering its own place in the world. The title describes her physical condition, love of the ocean and travelling. It tells of a journey of everyday experiences against a background of severe physical limitation. It is a love story.

All those who know her quickly saw her potential and so gave her every opportunity to live an extremely fruitful life. She responded in ways that showed an innate determination, love of adventure and a simple desire to have a good life. It shows what can be achieved against the odds. It is not only a detailed story of her amazing life, but also provides an interesting history of the development of disability services. It is a very human story as the author invites the reader to share her life, often vividly.
